My Top Clean-Beauty Picks that Bring Me Joy!

I have been on the clean beauty bandwagon for about eight years now and in that time and I have tried and tested numerous different products and I have finally landed on some products that I LOVE and that really bring me joy in my everyday regime (Human Design Generator over here!). I am about 80% clean now, as I have gradually migrated my toxic bathroom cupboard over to a clean one over the years, but I still have a little way to go.

Here are my top picks:

Face

Mouth

  • I have tried many natural toothpastes and this one was recommended to me by a friend a few years ago after they found the brand at a farmer’s market. This is by far the best natural toothpaste I have found - it tastes great and feels as effective as a ‘normal’ toothpaste. The peppermint flavour is my fave! Funnily enough, after using natural toothpaste for many years, if I ever end up using the standard stuff on the odd occasion when I’m staying at friends, or on holiday, I end up getting a mouth full of ulcers!

  • I am obsessed with tongue scraping and do it every single morning to remove bacteria from my tongue. I never feel like my mouth is fully clean without it! I have tried both copper and stainless steel options and I always find myself going back to stainless steel. The copper tends to rust very easily and it can be difficult to keep it dry. Also, it tends to be a bit more flimsy. This one from Dr Tung’s is my favourite -

  • I have tried many flosses but I always go back to Noosa Basics in spearmint. It’s by far the best I have tried -

  • When it comes to mouthwash, I actually opt for oil pulling after I clean my teeth! I use an organic coconut oil and swish it around my mouth which pulls out the toxins and then after a couple of minutes, spit it out. Be careful not to swallow it as it will have absorbed the toxic material from your mouth!

Hair

  • I have tried many shampoos and conditioners but I always keep going back to this Italian organic brand called My Organics. It’s surprisingly super affordable and stocked in Chemist Warehouse, so really accessible. As well as the shampoo and conditioner, I LOVE the leave in conditioning mask. It makes my hair so soft and silky -

Body

  • I have tried menstrual cups and period pants but I mostly always use Tom’s organic tampons. They come in a variety of sizes and I feel at ease knowing I am not putting any harsh chemicals inside my body -

  • I have been using Eco Cheeks loo roll for years now. The toilet rolls come in really beautiful packaging which looks great in the bathroom, and the toilet roll is made from bamboo, unbleached and it’s thick and soft. I have become a bit of a toilet roll snob and don’t think I can ever go back to the normal stuff! Also, I love being able to support a small business -

  • Deodorant is one of the most important beauty products to make sure is clean, as your underarms are so close to lymph nodes. I must have tried about 20 clean deodorants and it has been incredibly hard to find one that is effective, doesn’t break me out in an underarm rash, and that doesn’t stain and ruin my clothes. I have found many cream deodorants that are extremely effective but unfortunately leave white clumps all over my clothes, even after washing :( So I am now using this natural crystal deodorant made from mineral salts, which was recommended by a friend. It is fairly effective, good for sensitive skin and doesn’t stain clothing, so overall a good all rounder -

  • Asedos do beautiful perfume oils that are replicas of my old ‘toxic’ favourites. I have worn Dior Pure Poison since I was 16 and it has always been my signature scent, so when I found a clean replica of this perfume I was overjoyed -

  • I have had chronically chapped hands since I was a child. As soon as winter comes, they constantly crack and bleed and soaps just seem to irritate them more. This hemp seed oil hand soap is the ONLY one I have found so far that doesn’t make them worse. I also love that this is family run business and that all their ingredients are from their farm!

  • It’s no secret I am obsessed with baths. I often take a bath before work in the morning as soon as I wake up, which many people may find strange. I also love a bath at the end of a long day to unwind. I always make sure that I use good quality Epsom salts in the bath to boost my magnesium and to help cleanse my energy field. My completely open Solar Plexus needs emptying out daily! Salt is incredibly cleansing and I always feel amazing afterwards. There are a lot of good options on Amazon but I love Salts & Co bath salts, which is a family run business -

I am still yet to convert to 100% clean beauty products, as I am still yet to find a clean mascara that doesn’t give me panda eyes, a sun screen that doesn’t leave a white film on my skin, a lip balm that doesn’t dry out my lips, and a hand cream that works on my chronically dry hands. If you have any recommendations, I would love to hear them!
